Originally from a beautiful little village in the Lee Valley called Coachford in the “People’s Republic of Cork” Kieran migrated to Australia in 1982 and made Melbourne his home. Melbourne is a city known for its ethnic diversity and culture and has always had a thriving lrish community.
He joined a band called “The Liberties” on arriving in Melbourne playing guitar and vocals and played with them until his older brother Dan arrived and they decided to start up their own band which they called “Highland Paddy”. They had many years of success in Melbourne and around Australia and overseas playing in Asia on several occasions.
After leaving Highland Paddy Kieran started a new group in 1994 called Shanakee and again enjoyed much success playing in venues all over Australia. Kieran and Shanakee are still performing and have appeared at some major festivals in Australia. They play a mix of original penned songs and traditional folk songs and tunes.
Kieran has released two original albums, the first with Shanakee called “Weeds and Wildflowers” in 2013 which contained all original songs written by Kieran.
Kieran’s latest offering just released in May 2017 is called “Life’s a Journey” subtitled “A song for you” and contains 15 songs all originally penned by Kieran. He has taken some of his more popular songs from the first album and two from an EP recorded with Shanakee that he wrote, along with nine new songs to make up a cracking album.
Kieran’s is a songwriter who still identifies strongly with his native Ireland but who has also embraced his adopted land through his life, his story, and his songs whilst still honouring the Celtic spirit that burns deep within.
